7/9/2024 The S&P 500 climbed to a fresh record Tuesday after Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell warned about the dangers of keeping interest high for too long. The broad market index was last up 0.1%. The Nasdaq Composite hovered near the flatline after also hitting a record earlier in the session. The Dow Jones Industrial Average ticked down 15 points, or 0.03%. Powell said that keeping interest rates elevated for too long could risk further economic growth, seemingly hinting that the central bank is considering taking a less restrictive stance.
