Economic Calendar
An economic calendar is a schedule of upcoming events that could significantly effect the movement of individual security / stock prices or markets as a whole. The financial markets in general are a news driven suppy / demand vehicle, and the release of significant news or economic events will drive price movements in the markets. Some of the most common news events include Company quarterly earnings reports, Unemployment Report, Federal Reserve news, etc. Below is a list of some of the US Government reports.
The US government produces several economic reports that provide valuable information about the state of the economy. Here are some of the key federal economic reports:
- Gross Domestic Product (GDP): This report provides an estimate of the total value of goods and services produced in the US economy over a specific period. It is published by the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA)
- Consumer Price Index (CPI): This report measures the average change in prices paid by consumers for a basket of goods and services. It is published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS)
- Employment Situation Report: This report provides information on employment, unemployment, and wages in the US economy. It is published by the BLS
- Retail Sales Report: This report provides information on sales of retail goods and services in the US economy. It is published by the Census Bureau
- Industrial Production and Capacity Utilization Report: This report provides information on industrial production, capacity utilization, and manufacturing in the US economy. It is published by the Federal Reserve
- Housing Starts Report: This report provides information on new residential construction in the US economy. It is published by the Census Bureau
- International Trade Report: This report provides information on US imports and exports of goods and services with other countries. It is published by the Census Bureau and BEA
- Personal Income and Outlays Report: This report provides information on personal income, consumer spending, and personal saving rates in the US economy. It is published by the BEA
- Durable Goods Report: This report provides information on new orders for durable goods in the US economy. It is published by the Census Bureau
- Producer Price Index (PPI): This report measures changes in prices received by domestic producers for their output. It is published by the BLS
These reports are released at different times throughout the year, with some being released monthly, quarterly, or annually.
