7/2/2024 Stocks churned Tuesday as Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell noted progress on inflation, but reiterated that the central bank was not quite ready to cut rates. The S&P 500 rose slightly as Tesla shares jumped, even as Nvidia shares declined. The Dow Jones Industrial Average traded just below flat. The S&P 500 added 0.2%, and the Nasdaq Composite jumped about 0.5%. Tesla shares supported the S&P 500 as Elon Musk’s electric vehicle company reported better-than-expected deliveries for the second quarter. The stock, which had a rough first half, jumped about 9%.
